UNTITLED PHOTOGRAPHS 1999 - 2001 "At first glance, CÅ:s photographs deal with classic genres, such as architecture or landscape photography. However, on taking a second look, one discovers a narrative level where the group of photographs create a context for eachother. In this way, she works against a linear approach to the photographs. The beginning and end of the situations are not shown, but left open to be filled in by the viewer." "People are presented in the pictures as if they are on stage - as individuals they remain anonymous. Their representation in action and gesture is given a greater importance, but the gestures seem lost and their actions misplaced. One of the themes she has often come back to is power, looking closely at elements of order and control in the every-day life. Rather than satirising her subjects, CÅ:s photographs are gently critical - with quiet humour they take a sideways glance at the world." |
